Marie-France’s practice is focussed on helping clients complete business transactions and work through legal issues relating to businesses. She has broad experience in structuring and negotiating the purchase and sale of businesses, financing transactions, and commercial agreements, and in re-structuring businesses. Marie-France also advises businesses, from start-ups to established businesses, including highly regulated ones, on legal problems they face in making both strategic and operational decisions.

Reflecting her experience in advising universities in technology transfer matters, Marie-France also advises clients on intellectual property matters, and in negotiating and preparing licensing and other technology agreements.

Marie-France has advised clients in resolving issues such as restructuring a group of corporations subject to different regulatory regimes, settling competing rights in a patented invention, and a shareholder dispute through a negotiated buy-out and valuation process. Fluent in French and Spanish, Marie-France also has experience in assisting businesses in transactions in France and Latin America.

Prior to joining the firm in 2007, Marie-France was a partner at a national firm in Toronto practising in the financial services area, counsel to a national firm in London, Ontario focused on business law and a consultant to universities in technology transfer matters.

Marie-France is a member of the Saskatchewan bar and was a member of the Ontario bar until 2017. She has presented on various legal subjects to boards of directors, to business and university groups, and to other lawyers.
