Choosing the right law firm to begin your career can make all the difference. Telling the difference is not always easy. Kanuka Thuringer LLP is large enough to provide its articling students with a vast array of learning opportunities, yet small enough to enable articling students the opportunity to get to know everyone in the firm.

How many students do you hire?
We anticipate hiring 1-2 students for the upcoming articling year.
Do you have a rotation system?
Students are given the opportunity to work in all of the firm’s practice areas. As an articling student at Kanuka Thuringer LLP, you will work closely with your principal to ensure that you receive well rounded articles
What kind of work will I do?
You can expect to do legal research and to assist other lawyers with their files. You will be exposed to both commercial solicitor work and to litigation in most of the firm’s practice areas, and you will be given the opportunity to meet with clients and to manage files. If you prefer a certain area of law, we will try to give you additional exposure in that area, to the extent possible while still ensuring you receive a well rounded articling experience.
How many billable hours are expected?
We do not have formal quotas for expected billable hours for articling students.
What resources are available to students?
You will have your own office, and will share assistants. You will have desktop access to the firm’s Intranet, which includes links to precedents and resource material. You will also have desktop access to several on line legal research services. In addition, we have remote access capability that allows users to log on to our network from out of the office. We also have an extensive library, containing textbooks and hard copies of many case reporting services.
What do you look for in a candidate
Primarily, we want candidates who we think will be a good “fit” with the firm, and who are interested in making a career in Regina or Swift Current. We are looking for candidates who have high standards and who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence, whether academically or through other activities and interests. Basically, we are looking for intelligent, well rounded people who have the potential to succeed practising law.
Do you keep students after articles?
We hire all students with the expectation that they will subsequently join the firm as associates. While an associate position is not guaranteed, all students are typically offered jobs after articles.
What benefits do you offer?
The firm pays for all Law Society and insurance fees for its lawyers, as well as for a disability insurance plan, Canadian Bar Association and Regina Bar Association memberships, and continuing legal education seminars. The firm also pays for a downtown parking spot for all associates.
We also provide smartphones to all of our lawyers and students at firm expense.
Will I receive a salary during the CPLED Bar Admission Program
The firm pays your full salary throughout the articling year, and for all fees relating to the Bar Admissions Program and your call and admission to the Bar.
What are your start dates?
Starting dates are flexible, and are set by agreement. We are usually able to accommodate starting dates that are requested.
